hi -

Have recently had a loft conversion done -

there is a slight disconnect between the designers drawings and what has been left in the 'older' loft area

The design had all ten of the 'old' hip rafters removed (its a bungelow roof the had previously been extended out to the side - so only half the area has been converted to living and the other half remains as loft space.

I'd like to get these two sections of rafter out (the highlighed yellow bits).

can anyone see why this may cause any issues? - am assuming that, as they were removed on the structural drawings, that they are not load bearing - but hte roof has been chopped around quite a bit over the years - so wouldn't mind a second view or two!

more i look at it - the more i think they are needed to support the 'join' if thats the word, between the existing (1920s built) and the newer side extension roof that was added about 20 years ago...

be great to be able to lose them though....

or re-configure so they are supported/tied elsewhere?

The rafters appear to be part of a heath robinson framework that in turn supports the new hips.

As the works are in progress your SE may be able to help.

heath robinson :D not heard that phrase in a while!

yes - to be clear - the SE has been asked - he takes an eternity to get back on emails when it isnt the Xmas break.

I'll not be setting about with the reciprocating saw until i'm sure :D

All the roof envelope has not been altered by recent work - the mish mask of timer on the join was from a previos extension - recenly we've just had just the removal of the rafters to creatve access into the new 'loft' area

As his drawing have these removed - i'm assuming they are good to go without any additional support - but just wanted to consult those on here with more experiance that I on this kinda thing!
