Removing Masonry nails

Can anyone suggest how I can remove self-driving rivets from a brick wall? I think that's what they're called anyway! I've attached a couple of photos - one where I have tried a hammer and crowbar without much success :)

They might be nails. If they won't pull out then you could try drilling or grinding the heads off.
 
They look like "Hilti Gun" nails or similar to me. Hard to pull out! I think the last time I had anything to do with any I ground them off as Alan suggests
 
I don't have a grinder or similar, so I'll try drilling. There's eight of the damn things each attached with three of the nails!

If they are those, they'll be hard as wotsit. Tough too so they won't snap off. Cheap angle grinder will pay for itself in lessened grief I'd have thought.
