Long time reader first time poster scenario! as i generally search the forums rather than ask repeat questions! Couldnt find on this instance though - not to say it isnt there though!

... Hi,

Was just looking to see if when removing an old door buzzer intercom (telephone on wall style thing) reciever - am I able just to slice my old friend Stan Lee straight though it or is this likely to blow me electrically out the window? How would one of these be removed without killing me i suppose I am asking.

FYI - The intercom does not appear to send or recieve any audio. It only makes a *thunk* when i press the black button on it which i assume unlocks the door. - Not entirely sure of it's function either as I live in a 100 year old house...

Thanks,

most intercoms work on 12v dc or 12ac ( some others up to 24v dc) so will be quite safe to cut the cable BUT best thing to do is look for the power supply for the door entry and isolate this as you could put a short on the power supply or lock release by cutting it.

Will you need it again?
There are better ways of removing it. You may want a newer version at a latter stage. Or just to refit it.
