Removing old tiles & re-tiling

Hi, i'm a tiling virgin and am about to attempt to tile my bathroom

I removed the tiles today from the existing bathroom, it was tile half way up the way, then painted the rest. I tried not to be too brutal whilst hacking the old tiles off.

Below is a photo of the surface that is left underneath, I smoothed it out a bit with a scraper and removed the random areas of adhesive. It is generally a 'flat' wall, but is this good enough to tile on top of?

If this is an OK surface to work with, would it need some sort of primer before applying the adhesive?

Thanks in advance.

by the pic it looks just to be a couple of mm,so i would prime the area with bal apd/primer or mapei g then skimm over it with a rapidset floor addy let it set.. 2/3hrs..tops

then prime walls and tile away.
