Following on from previous thread, my immersion has now decided to give up the ghost.
Problem being that the thing has probably never been out of the cylinder.
I am worried about bending/tearing the tank and wondered if anyone had any tips. The thing is REALLY tight.

Thanks

Paul

None of mine have ever done that! How often does that happen?

just before the cly changes from a dull cherry red to a bright cherry red and then molten ,never failed with 24 harolds but you need finesse as well as brute force otherwise it is a new cly.if you are that worried about damaging the cly drill and boss it.

It`s so long ago  I worked for a housing assn. in the 80`s. There was a block of 50 flats with cylinders with side entry immersions @ the bottom of cyl. . Used to set the lamp up and just leave it ...after 5 mins. or so BANG the washer would split and leave the boss just a bit more than hand tight, when cool. Resorted to this after struggling with conventional ways  Must have done half the block over the years, say20+.And they all went bang.
