thinking of removing a stud wall where a staircase is on one side and replacing this with a timber framed book shelf, floor to ceiling.

Is this possible as the staircase is next to this wall?

The house is only 2 floors.

Thanks!

Provided that the stud wall is offering no support to the stairwell i.e. the trimmer beam gains no support from the studs, then removal should be straightforward.

However if this wall is providing the only enclosure to the stairs then you must ensure that the new bookcase is able to perform the same task.

Otherwise you will have to fit either stair spindles and a handrail or some other bannister arrangement.
