Some time ago there were a number of posts on the above subject. Someone recommended cleaning the ignition key to enable the transponder . I tried this but had no luck. However, it gave me the idea that the problem may be in the ignition barrel so I squirted it with WD40. So far, so good.

It does sound a bit of a black art, this one.....An AA patrolman once advised touching the key to the ground, to 'discharge' it.
If it works, who are we to argue?
