Hi, Renault Master 2500cc Diesel van
Mot coming up, and last time I had a warning that my rear brake is coming too far up, so
I have to shorten the cable.

Is there an adjustment on them, or do they have to be replaced. There was no mention about worn pads.

Cheers, Camerart

Sometimes the mechanism inside the calliper fails resulting in excess handbrake travel. Only cure is to fir a new calliper. Are the levers on the callipers releasing fully?

I've come across two types of cable for these....one was on a van, the other on a tipper flat bed truck.
The flat bed had the cable compensator (with adjuster) on the rear axle, the van used two identical cables which went to a quadrant just behind the handbrake lever.
A separate cable, or rod, connected the quadrant to the handbrake itself.
Either way, worn pads should not be an issue as the adjustment is automatic - just make sure the operating lever on the caliper is right back on it's stop, and any movement causes the brake to come on. At that point you head for the cable to look for problems.

Hi,
RESULT!
I've got past the age where I relish getting under vehicles.
I tried pushing my foot on the brake, while pulling the handbrake, and the handbrake adjusted.
Just passed the MOT.
Thanks, for the suggestions.
