Hi
I'm in a 1800's Yorkshire Stone (fairly soft) house. I've had DPC done through most of the ground floor, fairly successfully by professionals.
The house is directly on to foundations adjacent to a large farm field which catches quite a volume of water.
I'm now planning to do 'the garage' (used to be the old saddle rooms) myself. There's no DPC here and the previous owners rendered and painted the walls around 30 years ago. There's damp up to around 4 feet and salts coming through.
I've taken off the existing render to 4 feet around the garage (was around 1" thick) and will shortly be adding a chemical DPC (dryzone) - ideally following the existing mortar line. I have around 40 feet of wall do to in total.
I've done a lot of trawling through the forum and have almost too much advise on how to proceed after this with repairing some of the internal pointing and internal rendering!

I'd appreciate advice on
1. What type of mortar to use? (I'm assuming lime based given the type of stone) and any ratios or recommended suppliers
2. Same again for the render
I'm assuming I'll only render to a couple of inches above the DPC to avoid breaching.
Cheers
Stephen
