Never heard of a "Renegades avanti" boiler. Can you check this please.

Sorry,put this down to predictive text.The boiler is a remeha avanti open vented system

Thought it might be a Remeha Avanta.

To answer your question: yes, the pump should start before the boiler ignites. If it doesn't, the circuit board may be faulty.

:rolleyes:... For an E2 fault??:)
one of the reasons give for an E2 in the manual is:

No through flow: Check that the pump is working; turn the spindle with a screwdriver, if that works but the pump still does not respond, check the wiring;
that is in order the pump is faulty.

The OP has said that the pump does not always start before the boiler lights and pressing Reset corrects the problem for the rest of the day. Reset is connected to the PCB so the logical conclusion is that the PCB has an intermittent fault.

Thanks to D Hailsham and Steelmasons for your advice,still can't understand why the boiler will run correctly all day after the reset is pressed.This morning when I pressed the reset I saw that the pump started cycling immediately and a few minutes later the burner lit.

It might be worthwhile contacting Baxi Customer Support on 0344 871 1545. They are the official repair company for Remeha boilers.

Have you checked if your boiler is still in Warranty? Remeha had a habit of changing the length of warranty; but Baxi Customer support should have the info. You will need the serial number - on the plate underneath the boiler.

Hi,observed boiler throughout day,the boiler ignites the same time as the pump comes on but only occasionally,could it be igniting because the boiler is warm through the day but going to error 2 in the morning when the boiler is stone cold. Garry

Hi,observed boiler throughout day,the boiler ignites the same time as the pump comes on but only occasionally.
Not sure what you are saying. Do you mean (a) the boiler comers on occasionally during the day or (b) the pump comes on occasionally?

When working correctly the pump should come on about one second before the boiler lights.

Could it be igniting because the boiler is warm through the day but going to error 2 in the morning when the boiler is stone cold?
igniting? Do you mean the pump starting?

If so, yes, that is a possibility; if that is happening it suggests a fault with the control system

Where are your boiler and pump located? Are they in a cold place, e.g the garage?

The boiler has built-in frost protection as follows:

- at a water temperature below 7°C: the circulation pump is switched on;
- at a water temperature below 3°C: the boiler is switched on;
- when the water temperature is above 10°C: the boiler is switched off and the circulation pump runs for another 15 minutes.

Hi,yesterday the boiler was repeatedly going to error2,today the boiler has ran ok,the boiler and pump are both in garage,just turned house stat up and observed boiler,burner chamber was cold,both pump and burner came on together.Have noticed other times pump comes on first then boiler fires up a few minutes later.G
