I have been lucky enough to have been left my Grans old bungalow after her passing. The place is a 70's build with little character... just a plain oblong build where you have to walk through one room to get to the next etc.
In order for my family to move in we need to add a couple of bedrooms in the loft and would like to make further extensions and alterations.
Never done this type of thing before and was seeking guidance and tips on web links / books / magazines etc to help get me started.

Where to start?? Local Architect?? How to choose??
Exciting but daunting at the same time...... Local planning office where next to useless when i went to see them!

Thanks

employ the services of an architect or designer/surveyor who is up to date with the latest building reg's. get a drawing done and have it submitted.

i would not recommend doing a large project and spending a lot of cash, purely relying upon a buildings notice. it will drive the builder nuts.

.... my Grans old bungalow after her passing ....... The place is a bit soul less

 I'm sure its not, bless her

As mr n says, but first make sure you can do what you are proposing, as it seems a major refit.

Be sure you really want to do it, and not just for sentimental reasons, as it may be more economical to sell it instead

Check out your local councils planning page to see if loft dormers and bungalow extensions are possible. You need to know the constraints before you progress with your ideas

Plenty of land around it, Beautiful views, countryside setting on edge of a rural village.... No i def want to do it and move in there. Bit of sentimentality too but its 18 months since she passed away so no knee jerk reaction.

Modified my original post .. ta!

The plot is an old working small holding and i know it is deemed agricultural on green belt so could be limited...
