Got a radiator with some very bad bleed valves. I would like a quick fix if possible to get it through the winter then maybe replace the rad.
I've seen videos where you screw in a a plug but looking at these i can't really believe it's possible. So thought I'd ask if there's a way to get these out? Cheers.

I agree with Andy on this one. Once the bleed screws are chewed up that badly, blanking plugs are the simplest fix and much cheaper than a new rad. I usually swap the lot for brass plugs and fit a decent bleed valve on the other end of the radiator so you can still bleed it easily.

It didn't occur to me put one in the other end thanks. Any idea what size drill bit to use and what the new valve is called and is the swarf not a problem if it gets in the rad? Cheers.

Roll top rads 9/4 on, rounded ends coming up nicely.

Place your bets here.

OK......you need a BSP tap. It should be 1/8th BSP so you need an 8mm drill i think ?.
You can get a tap online for about £5.

While you're replacing the valve, spend a few quid on anti-rust metal paint.

I touched up a rusty bleed valve on a radiator with Hammerite in a rental years ago, and it held up brilliantly.

As yours has a lot more rust, just rub it down, clear the debris, and slap some paint over the radiator.
