Have had frost damage to copper cold water pipes in an out-house which is used for a washer and drier. These pipes have been lagged but the walls are single brick with no roof insulation.

As I only need to have a cold water supply is it worth replacing the copper system with plastic piping to prevent future damage and, if so, what type would be best.

I can certainly manage basic pipe-work in copper so could tackle most replacements I think. Are the "easy-fit" systems worth using or is there a better (cheaper) alternative.

We are only talking about 12' of pipe-work along with (say) 10 fittings.

It will still freeze whether copper or plastic pipe! ;)

You would be better using your energy on moving the utilities to inside the house.

I realise it might still freeze but I thought plastic "gave" when thawing out.
Don't have room inside house I'm afraid.

You will have far less issues with plastic, blue MDPE is a good cheap solution.

Sure, it can still split when the thaw out occurs, but I have found it lasts much longer than copper in my barn.
