I have a bungalow with a front door to the side. As this side is south facing I would like to remove the front door and increase the opening to introduce bifold doors. I also want to block up the back door. It appears I can do this without planning consent as it's side facing and not onto a highway. I am replacing windows too so bedrooms will have fire escape openings. Any issues or problems with house insurance I haven't considered do you think?

Bifold doors are expensive and less durable than a standard entrance door. So make sure you consider that.
Also having a lot of south facing glazing withoutexternal shading will cause overheating in summer.
I can't think of any legal issue though.
