Replace Leaking Isolation Valve on Toilet Mains Supply

Hello All!

I'm sure this is very basic stuff, however I am a complete novice but think this is one of those jobs I really don't need to pay someone else to do )

The isolation valve on the mains supply to my toilet is leaking, the pipe to the current valve is copper, the valve is then a plastic type with a small tap, the pipe above that that goes into the toilet is plastic.

I was going to get a metal compression type, one of these:

But wondered if this is ok to use when fitting from copper to plastic?

So I then wondered If I should get a plastic one similar to the one that is currently in place, such as this?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Or one of these. Compression should be fine, or pushfit. Make sure the plastic pipe has an insert in it, whether using a standard compression joint or push fit. Depending on where your leak is, you may find it's the lack of a pipe insert that's caused it.

If using the compression fitting with olives, then you'll need the plain type instead,

The plain ones suit both push fit and standard compression unions. The superseal ones can't be used for compression nut and olive joints. They are pushed into the end of the plastic pipe.

They are all basically pipe bore stiffeners to prevent the plastic pipe distorting at the union. They keep it nice and round to ensure a good seal. They're obviously not required for the copper pipe.

They will be available in different quantities and prices, depending on where you buy.
