Our current oven is connected via a 13A plugtop plugged into socket that is fed from a fused switched spur. ie the socket has a 2.5mm T&E feed from the spur and the spur is fed via a 2.5mm T&E connected to an old 4mm cooker feed elsewhere in the kitchen. NOW most new ovens I can see demand a separate feed rather than the older plugtop method. the ovens we are looking at are rated at 4KW...would there be any problems in connecting one of these new ovens to the 2.5mmT&E feed that is currently feeding the socket outlet. obviousley the switched spur is still fused at 13A, but im inclined to leave that in the circuit, agains chainging it for a double pole 20A isolator....hope this makes a little sense ;)

Probably.

What do the manufacturer's instructions say the rating of the fuse/mcb should be.

we (She) hasnt picked out an oven yet, but the installation instructions will be followed as far as "Reasonably Practible" to quote my DNO Operations Green Book ;)

It could be alright to do what you suggest as ovens do not draw the full current very often, if at all.

4kW @ 240V is only 16.7A so it won't take much diversity to get down to 13A.

It may not allow all the elements on at the same time.

You will need to conform to the manufactures instructions of your chosen appliance, as failure to do this could give you an unsafe situation and if any problem should arise from this, there responsibilities/warranty regarding the safety of the appliance and any connections would likely be void.

But as EFLI has stated offering diversity to the appliance, could quite easily bring down a 4kW output cooking appliance down to less than 13A providing there is no additional socket-outlet on the cooker isolator controls.
