Hope this question has not been answered previously but I have searched the forums for downlighter advice and despite many posts I can't find an answer I can follow:
About 3 years ago my wife wanted downlighters in the kitchen so we fitted 60W R80 reflector fittings (we'd had them in a previous house).
She now says they are too big and wants to go 'green'. (As many on this site predict, wives seem prone to changing their minds)
She says she wants these from Screwfix
http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;j...arch=54962&searchbutton.x=12&searchbutton.y=7
(Product code 54962)
My concerns are:
1) The lamps are very cheap - £24.93 for 3. Are they to good to be true? If so can someone recommend an alternative?
2)They specify a 9W maximum bulb which is meant to be equivalent to 40W. Should I look to replace the 6 R80s with 8 or 9 of these?
3) I believe they use GU10 bulbs. But I have found low energy GU10s seem to be longer than normal bulbs. Also I can't find 9W GU10s (am I blind?) Will I be able to get replacements to fit? A good quality bulb seems to be the 11W Megaman bulbs but these are higher rated so unsuitable, and longer than standard GU10s
4) If I went for something that uses the 11W Megaman would I be restricted to their bulbs in future because of the size of the fitting?

All advice appreciated - thanks[/url]

Thanks to all for the replies - LOL too

Oharaf, have looked at the low voltage screwfix GU10s and the reviews are terrible. Any other ideas?

Jockspark, have looked at Belllight.co.uk website and can see converters to reduce size but cannot see if suitable for low energy bulbs. The images are mainly for 50W bulbs

Are we too ambitious in wanting reasonable and reliable lighting from low energy GU10s now?

Thanks again.....
