Replacement LED Driver for 36v 12w

You need a 32v power supply not 36v, having said that I can't think why using an overrated power supply would knacker it, if anything it would knacker the leds. There is no harm in getting one rated for a higher wattage though so a 32v 15w rated one might be the best bet if you've had 3 12w ones fail!

36 volts, 12 watts, and lamps could be in 125 groups of 8 with a resistor which would be 12 watt so fixed voltage, or 150 groups of 10 which would not need a resistor and use 9.6 watts, and be fixed current, but there is no reference to fixed current, so seems likely fixed voltage of 36 volts, and there are 8 LED, and a 320 Ω resister in series, and a 125 of these in parallel, likely looking at the strip you can see a resistor every 8 LED's.

so yes new transformer is cheaper, but will it fit, and is there a problem with the lights? I would just buy a new set, to be sure they will work, for an extra £17 you're sure it will work, is it worth the chance?

I bought two last year and both have died. So that’s 3 in as many years.

I think you must have been very unlucky. We have several sets, one is around 15 years old, red, green, yellow, blue. A row of 4 of the blues failed, a couple of years ago, and that was used in the front window, and the failure was noticeable there., so we simply relegated it to use on the tree, and used a newer set in the window, where the missing blues don't show.

When packing them away, they simply get wound onto a folded newspaper, to avoid them tangling. When they are brought out, they are tested, whilst still wound on the newspaper.
