Replacement Rim Cylinder - How do I know what I have got?

you have got a perfectly ordinary yale-type nightlatch cylinder. It is not at all high security. It is sufficient to prevent the door blowing open in a strong wind.

If you wanted to upgrade, go for a British Standard BS 3621:2004 Thief Resisting nightlatch, which could be bought for about £36. There are several brands. ERA are also sold by Wickes with a Wickes label on the packaging. Sometimes the prices are lower. The "Yale" brand is quite well known so is priced at about double.

Otherwise, if this is for an external door on your house, I hope you have got, and use, a BS 3621:2004 Mortice Deadlock as well. A BS deadlock is cheaper and stronger than a BS nightlatch. The Union one is very good.

The BS mentioned on the cylinder you are looking at is not the Thief Resisting standard. Perhaps they did not include it in the ad hoping to trick unwary buyer, I can't say. I notice the ad does not say which grade the cylinder is supposed to meet. http://security.allegion.com/bumpandsnap/Pages/EN13032005Explained.aspx
