Why on earth didn't he use someone competent? How can he expect a restoration to go well if the initial work has been a major contributor to the deterioration of the building?
I had to laugh at his attitude to historically appropriate materials - he starts off describing how the building is in some sort of conservation area, and how he wanted to learn how to work with old buildings, then later in one breath he talks about using lime mortar and plaster etc, but in the next how he's boarded over the T&G ceiling and stripped the doors and coated them with PUV.
