Hello. I am replacing an old Landis & Gyr room thermostat with a Drayton RTS1. The current wiring on the old stat is red, black and blue. Red is live, The blue is wired into the earth position, so I presume that in this set up the black wire is neutral.

Our new Drayton is double insulated so the instructions say no earthing is necessary. However this model needs a wire to a 'call for heat' signal. Should I use the blue or black wire?

Thanks.

What is the model number of the OLD thermostat?

Are you sure it is a blue wire or has someone put a blue cover on the bare wire?

I'm going to guess that you use the red as LIVE and the black as the call signal. NOTE just because a wire is black down not make it a Neutral. Electricity does not understand wiring colours, nor do plumbers who are usually responsible for much confusion in this area.

The DINOT WIKI has a whole instruction on this. Did you look in the WIKI? Its the first place to start..

Thanks for advice. Couldn't find a model number on the old Landis & Gyr stat.
However was advised to swap 3 wire Drayton model for a 2 wire.
Instructions pretty clear and have fitted this one successfully. Red live, black as call signal. Thermostat & heating seem to be running OK. Thanks again.
