Hi All,

I’m replacing an oven. Current one is wired into a fused switch (see photo).

New one comes with a plug (see photo)

Can I just take the face of this, replace with a single socket and then plug in oven?

Alternatively, can I cut plug off new oven and wire into this switch? (Might be an idea as there isn’t a lot of space to get a plug through and I can avoid cutting at the cupboard carcass)

I’m a (fairly competent) DIYer but if people think it’s something for an electrician, please say.

All help/advice gratefully accepted

Thanks, Rob.

I plug should be in free air, or in forced air cooling, often the latter with an oven, the idea of using the FCU (fused connection unit) is the fuse is cooled by the bulk of the unit and the wall it is in, so does not need to be in free air to cool the fuse.

Cut the plug off, and wire in exactly the same with the new as the old one was. Take a photo before you remove the wires just incase you can't make out the markings for L N E. No new nothing needed. You may have issues with voiding warranty though should it need returning. Doubtful, but I have heard stories on the t'interwebz.
