Hi,

We are literally right in the middle of replacing our fan oven element for the first time, trying to follow instructions from You Tube. Got the back panel off but only one wire is attached to the element. Does this mean one has disappeared behind the oven or do we just attach it to the one which is still attached to the old element? It is a built-in oven so not easy to remove.

As the pieces are at present all over the kitchen, quick answers would be appreciated!

Yes two wires are needed ones gone though the back.

Thanks for your instant reply. How do we get the oven out? There is an in-built microwave on top of the oven. Is this going to be possible or do we need special tools? There are two of us here.
Thanks.

There should be 4 screws one in each corner when you pull the oven door down. Then it should slide out. Depending how high it is use a chair to put it on once pulled out. Then remove the screws in the rear panel poss a couple on top depending on make and model.

There are two screws at the bottom, one on each side. But at the top there are just two small round plastic circles. I thought these might be some sort of screw covers but they don't come off. Could it be that there are only two screws at the bottom?
Thanks

Could be. Take the two out then see if it pulls out. The screws go into the edge of the carcass that the oven is in.

Thanks! Have now got the oven out. And found that one of the wires
that connects to the oven has a burnt out connector. Not sure what the connector is called but I need to get a new one - and also get this one off! Can you help?

Is it the spade connector that goes onto the elelement

Yes. One is fine but the other has worn away - probably this caused or was a cause of the problem with the element.
I was thinking of going to a DIY shop to get one. Hopefully they are easy to put on. Husband and I pleased with ourselves to have got the oven out and taken it apart as much as we did. Thanks so much to people for such quick support and advice. Hopefully we will not get stuck on this last hurdle and will be able to do the whole job ourselves. Catherine

You can get them connectors from halfords or maplins or any car factors. Just cut the wire back a bit and rejoin it with a crimp tool or pliers.

Does it need to be a particular sort depending on the power of the oven?
Thanks.

No. It's only a spade connector like on car fuse boxes you get a pack of 10 for about 2 quid , you can get a box of all sorts from rs of maplins.

130741701589. eBay , this is what you want.

We bought the spade connectors as suggested by the previous post, took the oven out, replaced the element, reconnected it all. Switched on - after a split second we heard it blow. So back to square one. So disappointing after all the hurdles we had to get over.
Could it be the spade connectors were wrong? Or the replacement element was wrong?
Any other ideas?
Or suggestions for a professional who lives in East Surrey?
Thanks, Catherine
