Replacing old lights

Have a 60's lighting circuit (grey cable and red/black wires for L and N) - no earth.

Want to fit a modern light - brown/blue + earth.

Two cables on old light and two reds joined at terminal and two blacks to separate terminals on old light. How do I connect up new light?

Is your new light fitting Class 2, sometimes called "double insulated"? If so it should be marked with a symbol showing a square within a square.
If not then you cannot install it without an earth connection.

Does that mean a complete rewire of both lighting circuits?

Probably, if you want to use metal switches or light fittings. Check that there really isn't an earth, and it hasn't just been cut back.

Not cut back - plastic switches but light metal! I will look tonight for symbols.
