Mother in law is complaing about heating costs for her 3 bed bungalow.

The radiators are just single core, will replacing them with new double core of the same size reduce the heating bills?

thanks for any help and advice

if the only thing you do is change a radiator then no for the same heat output you still require the same amount off gas

closing doors draught excluders thicker curtains are all relatively cheap ways to save fuel

Good idea to change to double rads if you want to be nice and cosy.

I would also ensure she has 270 mm of insulation in her loft too.

yes, shut the doors first (free) then draughtproof (cheap) then insulate the loft (cheap, subsidised or free) then have the cavity walls insulated (cheap, subsidised or free)

Then insulate the floors (hard dirty work but not very expensive as insulation is subsidised 70% this year).

Check your local authority and energy suppliers websites for special offers. Some are benefit dependent and some are age dependent and some are universal.

We have just had the coldest December for hundreds of years so she should expect her heating bills to be higher than usual
