Hi all, I've tried replacing a single light switch (brass) to a chrome dimmer for my 5x60w chandelier.

I took the back of the old switch off and found 3 wires - blue, yellow, red.

I followed the instructions and connected the dimmer with no result. The dimmer does nothing.

Any ideas please?

Yes, you may not connected it up properly!

Which of the three wires was on which connection on the old switch?

- you did make a note, didn't you?

How are the terminals on the new switch marked? (is it C, L1 and L2?)

Is this circuit also switched on by another switch?

Last possibility: what is the rating of the dimmer. You have 300watts of lighting. Your dimmer must be rated more than that or it will fry itself.

Also, is there an earth cable at the switch?
This will probably be sleeved in green/green & yellow or just bare copper.

Was it a 2-way switch? What are the wires connected to at the other end?

Do you mean it doesn't dim, or doesn't turn the lights on?

Yet again someone else who can't be bothered to send a reply.
This is becoming very common here.

Maybe he's away this weekend?

Maybe he no longer has any power at all in his house?

Maybe a family member has been taken ill?

Maybe it's a bit soon to assume that he won't ever reply?
