Replacing the bath waste

Ok, I've replaced the seal and placed the new one at the bottom of the ridge and realigned the bath waste. Hopefully this is better.

Was the old seal twisted / deformed and is the new one the correct seal ?
Remove the ptfe ,if you havent already. Before bringing the nut into position ,leave it down , and present the trap to the waste outlet ,checking the seal is EVENLY in contact all around ( good alignment ) . keep it there ,then bring up the nut and hand tighten ,taking care not to cross thread. Dry all around and test for leakage.

The old seal was twisted. I have replaced it and laid down the new one flat against the ridge, taken off the PTFE tape and dried the waste and trap. I will return in a few hours and see how it has been.

Cheers

Looks a lot better now. Run water thru for a bit ,if ok fit plug and part fill the bath ,then see if its still ok.

Yesterday I used a drain snake to deal with the original problem of a slow draining of the bath and it seems to be draining quicker so I thought everything might be resolved.

However this morning I used the shower and I still ended up getting a small leak.

What should I do now?

Establish where the water is escaping.
From the waste to underside of bath.
From the overflow pipe to waste fitting.
From the trap to waste.
If its the latter ,which you have just fitted a new seal to ,try hand tightening a bit. You should not need a spanner on that fitting.

Its coming from the trap to the waste connection. I will try tightening it more tonight. It seems fine when there is no shower or bath it was only after a quick shower that I noticed it. I will take a photo of the new seal tonight when I get home from work to show what I have recently done.

What do you mean by " its fine when no shower or bath " . ??? If you managed to deform the first seal ,have you done it again ,maybe ?

Apologies, I'm not always very good explaining these things or reaching the right diagnosis as an amateur. I rechecked everything carefully. It turns out my problem is due to a gap in the sealant between the bath waste and the bath tub. The o ring is fine.

There was nothing wrong with the p trap yesterday after fixing the o ring. I should have been looking at the p trap and bath waste when I had the bath on rather than afterward.

Bit of a school boy error I know. Anyway I can see I will have to reseal the bath waste.

Well you have got there in the end mate. Check the rubber seal condition ,silicone isnt normally required. And ensure the waste is centralised over the hole in the bath .

Many thanks for your help and your patience. I've had a few showers now and tested the bath waste with a bath and everything is fine so far.

I will keep checking for the next month and then reseal the bath panel back.

Cheers
