Hi guys
The pointing in our Indian sandstone has completely collapsed in 75% of the whole area, 30ft x 35ft, I’m going to have to get to it when weather picks up a bit.
My questions are, should I grind or knock out the remaining pointing? what is the best way of re-pointing it.
Do I do a dry mix or a wet mix, and whichever is best what is the proportions.
Thank you in advance.

Might be able to just pick it out with an old screwdriver/wood chisel
I always use geofix now, piece of cake and quick to apply, looks good. More expensive than mortar tho. If you’re mortaring, slow and steady with a pointing trowel (or a mortar gun if you don’t mind the faff of unblocking it every 5 mins)

Best avoid a grinder if possible. Thin chisel (plugging) and sharp small bolster.

I would always point with a semi dry mix of sharp and building sand, and troweled with a jointer as it gives a much better finish. But brush in may be easier.

There should not be voids below for the joints to collapse, so that will need dealing with if brushing in. And the slabs should be firm and not move to cause any joint to crack.

Geo fix resin will save ye a days work pointing.

pointing leaves the best finish when done right but geo fix is the lazy mans best friend
