I have a Vailant Boiler, with the eRelax/vsmart App. I want to reset the AWAY temperature from 16 to 12.

I think I did, what you are trying to do, on mine the other week - It was the frost setting I adjusted, from 4C, to 8C. It was the first time I had bothered to use the Holiday Mode, previously in warmer weather, I had simply switched the boiler off. This time away, I though it worth while to leave it on, but set holiday mode, ending the day before we were due home. It worked well...
I was able to check via my energy suppliers website, that the boiler hadn't fired in our absence - no gas consumed, and return to the house nice and warm.
When I press the AWAY button, it presets to 15 degrees. I want to take that down to 12
It sounds slightly different to my Vaillant. Have you tried rotating the control, when it shows 15?
Is the setting perhaps in the Desired Temperatures menu?
I don’t know how it works on your system but on mine, with a Vaillant boiler (although it should be the same with all boilers), I control it through Hive. You can set the away temperature in the 'Holiday’ settings OR just change it from schedule to manual and set the temperature to whatever you want, in your case, 12°.
The OP's and my own system, are much more integrated to the boiler, than the Hive.
And either of you don’t have the option to leave it permanently on at a set temperature? That doesn’t seem very integrated to me.
I think you are completely misunderstanding. I have a day temperature and an overnight temperature, setable with times and temperatures, for each day. There is also a frost protection set temperature, for when the boiler is otherwise in an all off state. This is measured at the boiler, and perhaps the remote stat. It's this latter, which I think the OP is trying to adjust - should be adjusting.
Integrated, as in I think your hive just signals the boiler on and off, on = flat out. The Vaillant system makes a decision on how much heat it needs to generate to match the demand, based on desired temperature and actual, and so adjust it's output to precisely match.

Exactly, but the difference is - your boiler runs flat out to reach the set output temperature, then modulates. My boiler modulates from the start of the burn to match the demand precisely. My boiler never runs flat out, apart from when there is a sudden change and large change in the desired temperature. It may not seem to be very different, but I can assure you, having had both types of control on my Vaillant boiler, that the two are very different.
I constantly monitor and record my indoor temperature. The graph would show wild swings due to the on/off switching of the stat, and the boiler. Now it just shows a flat line, matching the set temperature. I can never usually hear the boiler run, or the pipes creak, because the variation in output so very gradual.

Hive does not connect to the ebus, it is far more basic to the eRelax/vsmart, I did look for the settings but it only says "Observe the additional instructions in the app." my Nest has just two settings, eco and comfort, and if I went away in the winter all I could do is manually set it to a lower eco setting, the geofencing is to be frank rubbish, as one can't set the distance, to automate it fully one needs to set the distance to match warm up time.
Since I don't go on holiday much in the winter, never bothered to set the eco any lower than 17ºC as if house allowed to cool below that then it would not warm up enough ready for my return.
What is wanted is a stage reheat, say 12ºC at 100 miles away, 14ºC at 50 miles away, and 16ºC at 25 miles away 18ºC at 10 miles away and 20ºC when within a mile. But not see any system able to do that, google maps is telling me my wife is 32 miles away at the moment so the technology is there, it even tells me it will take her 57 minutes to drive home. So suppose it could be set on driving time.
But given the option of ebus control and simple on/off, it would be ebus every time. Hive is all well and good for a boiler which does not have the option of ebus control, but where you do have the option then Hive is so much more expensive to run, one would not even consider it.
Sorry can't answer question on how to alter, clearly need the app to get the instructions, interested to know if you do find out how.
