Restoring Oak Floor

Hi all,

We've had the builders in and over time dust has gotten trodden into our oak floor. I'd like to know the best way to return it to it's former glory.

It's engineered oak I think, and appears to have a 4-5mm layer of oak on top of the engineered boards.

Is sanding an option or is the oak layer too thin?

What should I use to refinish it - oil, varnish?

Before you start sanding, try to give it a rigorous clean. For more tips, read our tips on cleaning original parquet floors - also counts for most other wood floors

Light sanding using an orbital sander would be fine, then I'd use danish oil to finish.
