I've recently refinished an oak parquet floor. Sanding down to bare wood and then applying three coats of satin varnish. Unfortunately the resultant finish appears patchy and looks like that I had not completely removed all the old varnish.

Is there any product that I could apply "over the top" to produce a more consistent finish?

No, the residue of the old varnish/lacquer will still be there.
