I think I've finally found the right forum!

I just put down the first coat of "Ronseal rich mahogany diamond hard floor varnish" onto a light oak parquet floor, in an attempt to match the wood to the other half of the room (where a wall had been removed). In some areas I've got a very good match, but unfortunately the overall finish is terrible. Wherever I've overlapped strokes with their "pad" applicator the colour is much darker giving a very patchy finish.

I realise that this is the result of poor workmanship, but what are my options to rectify the problem? Sanding back to bare wood again is a last resort!

Will multiple coats reduce the effect? Can I sand/steel wool/stripper away the dark patches??

Please help!
