hi, we have this lead panelling on our 1933 semi between the upstairs and downstairs bay windows. Its a great original feature but looks tatty. I was going to use a lead restorer/cleaner followed by patination oil, but am not sure how effective that will be given the state of it.
Does anyone have any experience of this or any advice please?
I would suggest the vertical step flashing could do with replacing several cracked strait through,
Clear picture of other side plus one of the whole thing would be useful.
OP,
The original bay widows were made of timber - the present windows are Pvc. Any internal bay damp?
Behind the lead sheets there's a stud framework
The lead is attached to the framing.
First thing to do is to get up close to check the edges of any exposed wood or ply plates for wet rot.
To clean up the lead google "Lead Sheet Cleaner" & follow instructions.
Use rags to remove the cleaner residue.
Afterwards use "Lead Patination Oil" to protect the surface - dont use any abrasives.
No damp, just looking to improve the appearance of the lead. It looks scratched, although that could just be brush marks/residue. Thanks for suggestions
