We have exposed the brickwork around our chimney and want to restore the bricks which were initial plastered (old style plaster) and painted. We are currently bushing down the bricks which wire brushes which you can imagine is painstaking work but have heard there might be some kind of liquid solution which may help us. Does anybody have any ideas??

We are also looking to then treat/seal the brickwork with something but are not sure what to use. Have heard PVA glue is a good choice but don't want a gloss finish. Is Ronseal an option and does it give the same effect.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Miles,

We are undertaking the same activity this week.

What option did you go for in terms of sealant?

How did it work out?

Thanks,
Phil
