Rewire Advice please

Hi,

I'm putting a new system in and when I've traced the pir and door connects back they are all connecting to one 12 core wire stuck together with tape :-0. I was gonna connect the individual zones back up and run them seperate into the panel.

Any advice on best way to do this?

Either replace all wiring with 8 core alarm cable from the sensors back to the panel. If this isn't practical, then modify the taped connections to a suitable junction box.

If you can solder, then it's even better to solder the connections in the junction box.

Thanks so I presume I need a junction box for each of the pir and door connections so I can run them all back seperate.

No, you can have something like the 24 way junction box with many in, many out. Just keep things tidy. When you have many wires connected in junction boxes, it's just another point for failure in the system.

It's also a good idea to label the cables so that you know which is which. Use white insulating tape or just write along the cable with a fine permanent marker like a CD pen.

If you're replacing the 12-core, remember that you can tape your 8-core cables to the end and use the 12-core to pull them through holes or through voids...
