RF Roomstat Linked To Mobile

Hi.

BG have quoted me £150 to supply & fit an RF room stat, controllable via mobile, so you can turn on (or up) your heating remotely.

Does this sound a good price?

I currently have no roomstat at all.

Heat mister units ar £137, google wifi stat.

That does assume you control the heating just on the stat, if its time zoned plus stat the stat remote won't do much in the timer is on an off period.

Heatmisers stat is programmable, and you can alter the timing and temp via your mobile or webpage.

Fairly easy to setup and install, but you must sink a 35mm single backbox into the wall to fit it.

I have one, and works well. I managed to get one when they were first released at a "sample" price

BG price is not bad at all, fitted. Wonder if that includes setting up your router taking into account the Wifi, port forwarding, and most likely a dyndns account?

Temperatures shown on the top right are a scroll wheel, scrollable with your finger.

Not sure if it includes what you mention...all he said was he would need a free port on the router. But he implied that when it was installed, I would be able to control my heating remotely, so I assume it does. He did not mention any further charges.

Not of the BG one, although the connection form their 'hub' to the stat is.

There is a box which sits next to your router, this is connected via ethernet. This box wirelessly connects to the wall mount stat, and a relay box which goes by your wiring center or boiler.

The Heatmiser version is WiFi, and they also have a Wireless version for connection to the boiler, although wired is preferred, as it gives you constant 240v back lighting to the LCD.

You can just about use a 25mm back box with the Heatmiser, but a 35mm is much easier.

It's a network switch that you connect to, not the router, the router connects the outside world to your LAN switch, all internally as it's an all in one box as these home setups have a switch and router built into the same box.

I think most people know that they have a "router" - most would be confused if you said "switch".

Most routers are actually 5 in 1 - An ADSL or Cable Modem, a router, firewall, network switch and access point. Commonly known together as "a router".

If you want to get picky, the Heatmiser would connect to your ACCESS POINT and the BG one would connect to your NETWORK SWITCH, but in the minds of the majority of people here, they will both connect to your ROUTER.

Mine in fact connects to an ACCESS POINT, which is connected to a NETWORK SWITCH, which is connected to the NETWORK SWITCH built into my FIREWALL ROUTER which has an ADSL MODEM built in.
