I'd like to put an RF/wireless thermostat on an Vaillant TurboMax Combi 824E. I have TRVs on all radiators - am aware about advice about bypass etc. My reasons for selecting a wireless model is that with the imminent arrival of my priesthood qualifications, it would be good to be able to vary the room from which temperature is controlled. That is, move it from both the baby/prayer room to the living room etc.

A few questions:
1) With TRVs on radiators, am I simply setting up possible conflicts all ove rhte place?

If 1) is true, stop reading and tell me. Otherwise read on ...

2) Do they operate on any similar frequencies to DECT phones or Wireless routers? That is, is there any likely possibility of interference?
2) My budget is about £100. Any recommendations or major differences that I should look out for?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Father, top o' the morning to ye!

The room with the room stat should have the TRV set to a higher temperature than the room stat. Then the room stat will activate first. You could fully open TRV or just take the head off.

I don't know about the technicalities of radio interference (Agile's your man) but presumably someone's thought of that and worked something out. £100 should cover you - consider a programmable room stat (replaces programmer). Honeywell and Danfoss are good makes - check out their web sites.

Ah be sure, be sure, Chris.

Are you in Guantanemo by chance? Or Fidel's side?

Anyway, thanks for this. Sounds like as soon as I move the controller I will have to up the rad setting, no? Maybe it will be a pain but I might give it a go. If it proves difficult, I can always leave it one room.

I'll wait on Agile's wise words re interference.

Guantanamo (the city and province) is part of the Republic of Cuba. The US has a large base nearby which is referred to by the same name. I'm much further to the east.

yes father he is, roaring trade for a top notch heating engineer there, like agile is on 24hr call out in the sahara ;)

24 hrs in the Saraha ? The nearest I have actually worked to the Saraha was when I was in Libya !

Father Tobe, be careful of your young son Chris's advice!

You have clearly stated that you want to take the temperature controller from the prayer room to the baby's room ( in Bethlehem ? ).

Be aware that the full controller that you need looks like a TV remote and sits in a holster like a cordless phone but costs closer to £200 !!! But you can carry it around the Abbey !

The cheaper version that your son Chris mentioned is intended to be mounted on a fixed wall.

Interference from taxi firms and other UHF transmissions have been largely eliminated since the frequency was changed from 418 Mhz to 433 Mhz to the annoyanace of radio amateurs since 2001.

The receiver has been vastly improved from a simple super regenerative type to a full superhet with a 455 kHx IF frequency. The original designer was a radio amateur but I presume he has left/retired as the later frequency was his 70 cm amateur radio band.
