Hi
My structural engineer has specified a RHS beam with an 8mm plate welded on the bottom for the rear wall of my house. I'm wondering if I should insulate inside the RHS or if it should be left empty, any advice?
Thanks
Adam

Yes insulate where you can, these are a significant thermal bridge.

Thanks I was thinking this, Loft insulation inside? can possibly insulate over the inner side prior to fireboarding

Yes those are the two important things, many people just insulate within the beam.

Can you slide Celotex or suchlike inside instead? The more efficient the better.

You only need a relatively thin section of insulation on the inner face and underside.
