Marley modern conc. slates (large flat interlocking 420x290).

Are the ridge tiles supposed to be bedded on mortar full length each side as well as ends? I had to take a load off to replace slates and they were bedded/pointed at the ends but apart from that no mortar along most of each side?

Edge bed and butt joints is the correct way.
Use tile slips not bits of gutter.

The gutter can stay for a day as there's some rain coming in before I'll get chance to bed the ridge.

Tile slips?

Do you mean bits of broken tile to stop the mortar dropping down between, and help prevent slump?
