I understand that the floor area for a ring circuit is limited to about 100sq m. But I want to put a radial circuit of 6 x 13amp sockets in my stables, in a long line. The area is about 240 sq m. but just in a straight line from stable to stable. Is this allowed?

Also who can recomend a good book for explaining wiring regulations in concise languish, or do I have to wade thru the whole book!!

Essential you have the circuit RCD protected. Horses are very prone to electrocution even through earth leakages that are harmless to humans even if barefoot (due to distance between front and find legs). This is a specialist application, you may need someone used to agricultural installations. Needs to be waterproof sockets and possibly "chemical" and ammonia resistant cables; I can't remember now. You will need the cables and accessories to be out of biting range.

I am picturing this as a row of loose boxes under one roof, not individual buildings, is that right? And are the sockets to be inside the boxes, for clippers and things?

The need to take into account the damage a horse can do if it panics and starts kicking the stall to pieces must extend to the electrical wiring. A rearing horse can reach up to 10 feet or more so anything below that level is in the danger zone.

The provision of a lockable main switch to isolate the power circuits when not needed could be an aid to safety. The lighting circuitry can be placed above the kick and damage area with the switches outside the horse box door.

Yes, John D. Six loose boxes under one roof. The sockets will be in a closed off area that the horses can't reach. They will be used for clippers, powerhoses - and power tools in one of them which is a work room.

Thanks for your help.
