Roads that give cyclists priority.

looks a bit photo shopped, even the garages and cars on the drives are gone.

Don't think it is. True, that image does look a bit odd, but when you see the full sized one in the article it doesn't.

As for garages and cars gone, that would appear not to be the case

Bearing in mind Streetview images are nearly 4 years old - it looks like they've knocked down whatever was before the house with the white walls and brick gable and built housing.

I imagine they claim the roads are quieter and safer.... with zero traffic.

Instead of imagining, read the article - no such claim is made. And how could it be, when there's been no change to who can use the road? They haven't banned cars. They haven't made it an LTN. They haven't made it residents only. It's no more "zero traffic" than it was before.

its hard to see the benefit to those who previously used the road:

It's hard to see the disavantages to anybody except non-residents parking on the road.

And from the DM article:

one homeowner said: 'I think it looks really good. There is less parking on the road now.'

I think it looks a lot better than it did - if I was a resident I'd not be complaining.

All roads give cyclists priority now after the change in the Highway Code

What are your thoughts on this? Would you like to see them in your area?

What though is this/them? And why are people against it (if the DM article isn't entirely fabricated)?

The argument that the money could have been better spent elsewhere may be a good one - I can't speak to that, but other than that?

They've banned on-street parking, widened pavements, and reengineered junctions and crossings to reduce speeds, which is generally regarded as the best way to enforce 20mph limits, and possibly to give pedestrians and cyclists better priority at junctions.

Have road traffic regulations been changed? They're using this on the road

but AFAIK it has no legal significance. Motorists are already supposed to give way to cyclists. In some countries drivers are not allowed to overtake them, but we've not got that here.

I suspect the biggest benefits to cyclists will be no parked cars (so no pete01s opening doors onto them to injure them, or worse), and increased observance of the 20mph limit.

Looked at that way, what on earth is there to get frothed-up about, so

Should it become the norm where possible?

Why not? Why shouldn't parking on roads be banned if it improves safety and traffic flow? Why shouldn't the interests of pedestrians and cyclists be better balanced against those of motorists?

When the Mail visited the third-of-a-mile-long road today, narrow residents' bays pushed vehicles' wheels into the bright red road and forced vehicles into the path of cyclists.

Compared to this before

They just can't help themselves, can they.

Ruddy cyclists!!!!! They should have insurance. Every cycle have a registration plate and be charged a fee for using the roads.

Plus, a law that allows motor vehicle drivers the right to throw javelins at cyclists.
