Thanks for the replies. I am onto hot soapy water and lots of elbow grease now. It is tough and will take me a while to get it off.

this is sold as patio or brick-work cleaner in the uk.

If you use acid cleaner on metal i would do a test piece first to see how it reacts. Cleans mortar from tools great at first but then they rust like hell.

As above, and if the garage door is galvanised DON'T use it, the fumes are very poisonous

....yeah, and if the fumes make you vomit, make sure the puke does not go on the door neither.

try some of the builders wipes. they are pretty good at removing most stuff like that
