Roof battens not level across valley

Our new roof was felt and battened by a contractor but my partner is doing the tiling. The battens laid are not level from one side of the valley to the other and so he is having difficulty with the valley tiles. The contractor believed there is no problem with this and says he could tile it no problem, but we are not prepared to pay £8k for this. Is working on uneven battens usual practise amoung roof tilers? Are we being too picky? The spacing between them is uneven by about 15mm per batten and the gauge is not right on some rows either. Any advice would be welcome, as I cant seem to find clear guidance, so I can hold them to account. Thanks.

Did they snap a chalk line or use a bent batten as a gauge?

No chalk line is evident but have no idea how they did it.
Pitch is 38 degrees. Not sure how this affects the battens being level. Happy to consider all possibilities as I have no experience in this area. Is this common practise in certain circumstances? Thanks.

If pitches are dissimilar then things are not straightforward as you might think .
Yes the gauges look all over the place . But it certainly could be tiled . That much is correct
A pig course near the top though

Yes you are correct, the battens are not lined up so you can't do the tiling without it leaking.
Fit a roofingwall valley if you get stuck. roofingwall.com

Excuse me for asking but what happens when the battens don't line up as they do in the photo of the valley tiles I posted. Which was done years ago?

Maybe he didn't do it quite right in the hope you'd get him to tile the roof ;)

Perhaps he didn't, assuming that is he and not she, know any better and has taken the job on without ever by the looks of it tiled a laced valley or ordinary tiled valley before.
Problem with you tube is that everyone incapable of any trade skills can say yes and think that you tube will save them. They take the money and ruin the trade. The drive to succeed has exceeded the morality to do things properly.
Lot's and lot's of stories out there like this.

Whenever I have tiled these valleys in all the battens are mitered at the valley and meet up regardless of differing angles.

There's a limit of pitch difference when one can get battens to course .there are times when pitches are too different for battens to course and stay within the correct gauges .
Try , 40 degrees and a 70 degrees . You won't get them to course , you will end with dissimilar amount of courses each side . (Pigs) .
Then you need a skilled person . Diynot.

Yes the builders then switch to valleys boards. My new invention does away with even these roofingwall.com
Thanks
