Personally, I prefer the look of a hip roof, but a full gable always gives much better space for future loft conversions.

I`m not too keen on the "context of adjacent" approach to planning - end up with a load of mock ...era houses - But then the opposite approach gave us the London Suppository ( Gherkin)

Depends what the Planning Officer wants
A gable is more frowned upon than a hip due to the increase in volume/mass.
But it depends on the site/area.
A gable roof is simpler to construct and less expensive than a hip end.
