Hello,
we are thinking about building a 1-storey side extension to our end-of terrace house. Border of our land plot is not parallel to the wall of the house. We have about 2 meters on the front side and 4 meters at the rear for our extension (overall length about 7 meters). To maximize usage of available space we think if building non-rectangular extension.

What roof options do we have in this case? Is it only flat roof which will do the job in this case? Tiling of the non-rectangular pitched roof looks quite puzzling for me.

Thanks for any advice,
Sergey

If your existing end wall is a gable wall, the geometry is fairly simple, though the joiner has to devise a way of supporting the lower ends of the rafters against the new gable. The ends of the ceiling joists lying along the angled wall will also have to be supported off a pole plate fixed to the wall.

Where problems really begin is if your roof is a hipped roof...........

A gable end would be easy to design in roof trusses solving the issue of tying in the rafters/ceiling joists to the new gable, by using a girder truss running parallel with the splayed wall.
A hipped extension or a raise ceiling would throw a few complications into th e mix though...

As for tiling, shouldn't be a problem for a competent tiler
