I'm getting my roof replaced shortly and I'm planning to have a cloak verge in either Marley Mendip or Modern tile type.

Since I'll be getting mine done, I've recently been paying attention to other rooves and observing what other houses have, particularly those that have also been recently re-roofed.

I'm wondering why, on a bog standard 60s semi or detached house, when a roof has been replaced with all new tiles of a type that offer a cloak verge tile option, would someone have chosen to have a wet/mortar verge instead of a cloak verge? What are the advantages (if any)?

Personal choice? Either that or the roofer quoted to provide a traditional verge. I must say that until the plastic cloak verge has been proven over time not to degrade and split from UV, I would opt for original if I had the choice.

I don't mean plastic dry verges, I mean actual cloak verge tiles

If you're getting re-roofed with new e.g. double roman tiles, why would you not have it done like this?

They are generally not a stock item, and they are not as flexible when setting out. They are better, in my opinion, but they are a lot more expensive.
