Hi,

We recently brought a house and refurbed it, we had water leakage happen few times in many month but no idea where it came from, we now suspect it was because our left side neighbour hah replaced their roof. The house had damp issue on the ceiling before we refurbed it.

We suddently had a call from Next door Neighbour builder 2 days ago, they had done some work on the roof without notification to us, he was building a new house so most likely have a new slate roof put over a long time before we had brought the house.

They mentioned that because our roof was higher, water would hit the roof and leak to their side of loft window, also would leak between our roof into the plastering, I dont know if their was a exsiting bonding gutter before any alteration was made.

I suspect he has not done the job properly, his was the builder who replaced roof for neighbouring houses, they mentioned their was water leakage inside the wall in those houses.

Now we ask for photo of how the roof was before the work begin, they said they do not have any. These are all the photo we have, the material they used was sharp sand mortar mix and they could not provide the product name.

They want us to pay 300 pounds for the work done.

Quite hard to follow your post but unless you instructed the contractor to do work on your roof you owe him nothing.
He should not be touching your roof without your permission and has committed a trespass by doing so.

Thank you Alastairreid.

We also wondering if the work on the photo is done properly. Does sharp sand mortar mix blocks water from leaking into our loft into the future.

Also we dont seem to have a bonding gutter.

Datarebal,

The tiled roof on the left side is our roof and the slate roof with loft window is their roof.

Yes Catlad,

We also thought it wrong as the otherside of the roof had no issue of water leakage. it seems like they done it because their was issue on their house, but to charge us for it.

It's caused by their work, they need to pay for it.

Also do you get damp from your chimney at all?

At the moment, we dont see any damp on the wall, and our neighbour who shares the chimney does not have damp issue aswell.
