Is it allowable to put a programmable room thermostat in a bathroom - preferably wired?

I am not aware of a mains stat that is suitable for use in a bathroom. I am not sure that a stat is suitable for the environment (steamy and all that).
You should check with the manufacturer.

If you must do it then I would suggest a battery wireless stat would comply with wiring regs. What is the application?

Bathroom is running as an independent zone on central heating (to allow for warmed towels during the summer), running on a timed controller.

However, when the TRV closes the rad down, the boiler will still run due to it's being timed, which seems wasteful.

The only ones I've ever fitted have a temperature probe placed inside the bathroom and a control outside, often on the opposite side of the wall for ease of installation.

I have however seen controls mounted inside the bathroom for use with electric undefloor heating.

so long as they are outside the zones I don't see a problem as you are allowed sockets in bathrooms so why not a room stat

So, if positioned outside zones 0,1 and 2 there is nothing in the 17th edition which states it can't be done.

Still a problem, since the only such place in my bathroom is ..... directly over the rad :!: :?

In fact, if (when I refurb the bathroom and remove the bath) I have a 1200 by 800 cubicle with a sliding door, then by definition the place right by the fixed panel on the sliding door section will have to be 600mm from an opening to the wet area. Is this outside zones 1 and 2?

zone 0 is where the water can fill up to if you block the plug.. ( ie the area inside the bath or shower tray )

for shower rooms without a shower tray ( ie wet rooms or "roll in" showers ) then zone 0 is the same area as zone 1, but only 10mm high from the base of the shower area..

Thanks - but what about on the wall adjacent to the fixed panel of the cubicle? If, as previously stated, this is beyond 600mm from the opening, then is it still within the zones?

Hoorah! Many thanks indeed. Now all I need is a wired programmable stat suitable for a bathroom's humidity!
