Rover ABS Light

Father In-laws got a Rover 620 and has been suffering with an ABS light which keeps coming on and stays on for a couple of days then goes out again for a day, before coming back on.

I know the brake fluid is topped up okay.

Any one got any ideas as to what might be the cause and if it is something which needs sorting or can just be left alone.

The car incorporates a self-diagnosis function.

By bridging the two pin terminal in the passenger side area you can get any faults displayed in "flash codes" on the ABS warning lamp.

Ensure ignition is switched off
Bridge terminals
Switch ignition on
Warning lamp will illuminate for 1 second
Trouble codes will be displayed after a 2 second pause
Each code consists of two groups of short flashes separated by a 1 second pause
A 5 second pause separates each trouble code group

i.e. 4 short flashes-1 second pause-2 short flashes =code 42

I don't have your e-mail address to post the list of codes but if you tell me what you codes get I will tell you what they are.
