Hi

We are building a 2 story extension and have almost got the slab finished (hubby is doing the slab) We are using a builder who is getting fairly old but still very very good at his job, we have used him for over 25 years and trust him 100% but we are going to have a problem when it comes to putting in the RSJ's as our builder may not be able to cope with their weight ect.. and I dont want to overload him. Are their companies that will come and put in our steel work? or should I try to locate other builders?
Thanks for any advice

You will need to go to a steelstock company to cut and supply the beam. Just pick one that will supply and fit. Many will.

Thank you for your reply, do u think its likely to be more expensive using the steel cutting company?

Probably will be because thay have to come to site especially - whereas a builder is allready on site and set up. I would get a couple of quotes and see what they come in at. The cost depends on the length and weight of the beam, location, access and if any lifting equipment is needed.

You could just hire some lifting gear in to help the builder.

Have you spoken to the builder about this and asked if he can get some help himself?

He may not be very happy if one morning some other guys turned up out of the blue to do his work.

Hi
He is 78 and he is only doing the blockwork, my hubby and I are doing the slab, steel fitters will hopefully fit the steels, carpenter will fit the 1st floors and so on. He is a great old fella and has recently lost his wife so the blockwork is keeping him busy.
